Grapevines and olive trees leave an unmistakable mark on the landscape of hills.
Today, most olive groves and vineyards are specialized. Modern cultivation methods aim at improving quality, obtained also through the selecting of traditional species.
This explains why one finds eleven DOC wines and two DOCG wines in a region as small as Umbria, and the regional production continues to sell well on both the Italian and international markets. And virtually all of the extra virgin olive oil produced can boast of the “Umbria” protected designation of origin, which covers the entire regional area.

Sagrantino Wine Road

This road gets its name from Sagrantino, a great vine from Montefalco's slopes. Travelling around the vineyards and olive groves of these hills you will find many opportunities to enjoy good food and art. You can admire the masterpieces of Benozzo Gozzoli in the Museum of St. Francis in Montefalco, the old town walls of Bevagna and the fortified castle of Gualdo Cattaneo. Not forgetting Castel Ritaldi and Giano dell’Umbria. Wine and also typical food products: truffles, extra virgin olive oil, spelt, pork.

Canticle Wine Road

Trasimeno Hills Wine Road


Welcome to the land where sun-drenched hills and Trasimeno lake create a perfect micro-climate for the growing of vineyards and olive groves. A land where the vineyards seem to be respectful towards other fruits, colours and scents which this land has been providing with for centuries, as they are located on the edges of a wood, close to an olive grove and in the middle of fields with wheat and sunflowers. Travelling this wine road you can discover the art of the Renaissance artists like the "Perugino".

Umbrian Olive Oil Road

In 1998 was established the Protected Denomination of Origin (D.O.P.) "Umbria", an exclusive typification and qualification of the Umbrian Oil production. D.O.P "Umbria" is still today the only Denomination in Italy covering a whole regional oil production. This D.O.P. consists of 5 separate sub-areas of production according to the different olive varieties with botanical diversification for each area: "Hills of Assisi-Spoleto", Martani Hills, Amerini Hills, Trasimeno Hills, Orvieto Hills.
